Learning Disability (LD)
Learning disabilities typically cause individuals to have difficulties in learning, reading, writing, listening, speaking, reasoning, and arithmetic.
The following are three specific terms used to specify the above difficulties:
Dyslexia
Refers to difficulties with reading
Dysgraphia
Refers to difficulties with writing
Dyscalcula
Refers to difficulties with math
Research has indicated that learning disabilities typically result from the differences in how each person's brain interprets and processes information. Children with learning disabilities can be high achievers, they need to first develop strategies that will help them successfully learn and process.
There are not specific signs that identifies a student; however, there are clues that can signal the possibility. They include one or more of the following:

- Have trouble learning the alphabet, rhyming words, or connecting letters or sounds
- May make mistakes when reading aloud
- Have trouble with reading comprehension, spelling, and writing
- Have limited vocabulary and mispronounce words
- Have trouble understanding social cues or jokes
- Have difficulty remembering and following directions
- Have trouble organizing written or verbal conversations
- Confuse symbols, letters, and numbers
- May not know where or how to begin a task without specific directions
